An Overview of the Cemani Generations
Gen Purple:
Developed by pairing high-quality Cemani hens with a carefully selected, unrelated rooster. Finding the right rooster took over a year, but the resulting offspring displayed dark pigmentation and many desirable traits. However, some areas needed improvement—body structure could be gamier, tongues darker, and occasional white feather tips (which faded to black) indicated the need for refinement. While there was no feather leakage, variation in quality led to further development.
Gen Winter Purple
To enhance Gen Purple, the hens were bred with a darker tongue-line rooster who had a black mouth and dark gray tongue. Although his temperament was not ideal, his genetics strengthened the next generation. The hens from Gen Winter Purple then became the foundation for the next phase of breeding.
Gen White came from a bloodline that had a charcoal sublingual/black mouth rooster over the flock. The hens mated to this rooster came from 3 other SOP lines, including the gen Winter Purple. The genetic diversity helped ensure fertility and vigor among the offspring and future generations.
Gen Black began as of May 13th, a black tongue rooster from BBC farms became the breeder but sadly was taken out by a raccoon in July.
